During the COVID pandemic, some property owners might wonder if it’s safe to have roofing projects done. Although you might be tempted to put these tasks off due to safety concerns, you should plan to have them done sooner rather than later. Whether your home or business needs roof repairs or a replacement, it’s important to take care of roof issues promptly to lower the risk of severe damage later on. And, roofing is generally done outside your home, of course, making it easy to stay and feel safe getting the project done.

At Prestige Roofing, we don’t want you to worry when you have work done. Generally, our work keeps us distant from residents and we’ll be staying outdoors. While we interact with you and with each other on the job, our roofers have been instructed in how to follow CDC health and safety guidelines to ensure that our roofing projects are completed as safely as possible.

Don’t Delay Roof Replacement or Repairs

The roof on your house or building keeps it safe from wind, rain and other potential causes of damage to the interior. Your roof needs to be in good condition in order to keep doing its job. When your roof needs repair or when it has extensive wear and tear due to its age, delays in corrective repairs can be costly. A roof that’s in poor condition puts your home or building interior at risk of having serious water damage or other problems, such as mold growth. Having repairs or a roof replacement done as soon as possible helps ensure that your home or building is well-protected from the elements.

Taking COVID Safety Precautions

Due to the pandemic, many roofers are taking precautions to keep customers and crew members safe while work is done. Specific guidelines for the roofing industry haven’t been issued, but roofing contractors, like all businesses, should follow the general recommendations from the CDC and other health and safety organizations. Prestige Roofing is taking care to follow these important recommendations, including the following:

  • Social distancing: This involves staying at least 6 feet away from other people, which helps minimize the spread of the virus. Keep in mind that your roofers will mostly be working well away from where you are when repairs or a roof replacement are underway. For the rare occasion that roofers have to enter your home or building, such as for attic ventilation, you and your roofing contractor can work together to ensure that they do not come within 6 feet of anyone and avoid touching surfaces like door handles by clearing a path for them.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Responsible roofers and their work crews should wear face masks and gloves at all times they are near or interacting with clients or each other. Customers may also want to wear masks when interacting with their roofers for the best protection for everyone.
  • Remote technology: Under normal circumstances, you would meet with your roofing contractor in person before the project begins. With the COVID pandemic, some roofers have switched to using remote technology instead. For example, you might have a video chat, virtual appointment or phone call with your contractor to go over the details of your roofing project instead of discussing it in person. You might also be able to provide photos for your roofing contractor if needed.
  • Digital transactions: Your roofing contractor might also use paperless or digital transactions instead of paper ones, which helps prevent the spread of germs. For example, you might conduct your transaction and receive paperwork via email.
